Apostille in Kazakhstan | Consular legalization in Kazakhstan

You are kindly invited to use the service of putting the «Apostille in Kazakhstan». Also, our company may legalize documents at consulates (embassies) of various countries on the territory of Kazakhstan (hereinafter referred to as consular legalization in Kazakhstan).

The Republic of Kazakhstan is a member of the Hague Convention. Thus, the documents issued in Kazakhstan may be legalized under a simplified procedure, in particular, through apostilization. Translated and apostilled Kazakh documents will be accepted by the countries that are members of the Hague Convention. In the case where the documents issued in Kazakhstan are presented to a country that is not a member of the Hague Convention, the documents need to be legalized.

It is also important to know that Kazakhstan has signed the agreement on mutual legal assistance in civil matters with some of the countries. Therefore, the documents issued in Kazakhstan require translation only.

Unlike other countries, documents in Kazakhstan may be apostilled by a large number of public institutions, in particular: the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Culture, Information and Sports, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Often, apostille in Kazakhstan is put by the Ministry:

  • Ministry of Justice. This institution apostilles notarized documents and civil registry documents (birth certificates, marriage certificates, death certificates).
  • General Prosecutor`s Office. This institution apostilles police clearance certificates in Kazakhstan.
  • Ministry of Education and Science. This institution apostilles educational documents, in particular diplomas, certificates of secondary education, etc.
  • The Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan. This institution apostilles court judgments.

There are 8 public institutions that may apostille documents in Kazakhstan.

Consular legalization in Kazakhstan is a more complicated and time-consuming procedure. You may need consular legalization in the case where a target country is not a member of the Hague Convention, or you need to acquire citizenship of some countries. For instance, to become a citizen of Italy, the documents issued in Kazakhstan have to be legalized at the Italian Consulate in Kazakhstan.

If you need to legalize a birth certificate in Kazakhstan in order to become a citizen of Italy, the following steps have to be taken:

  • An original birth certificate is apostilled in Kazakhstan. An up-to-date certificate is required. The Ministry of Justice refuses to apostille certificates issued by the Kazakh SSR. To replace a certificate you may contact our company or visit a civil registry office in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
  • An apostilled copy of the birth certificate has to be notarized in Kazakhstan.
  • A notarized copy of the birth certificate has to be translated from Kazakh (Russian) into Italian.
  • The translation has to be notarized either.
  • The document has to be certified at the Italian Consulate in Nur Sultan (former name of the city is Astana).

The Italian Consulate puts stamps, seals, and a sticker that confirms payment of the consular fee, after that the consul signs a document.
