International Centre of Documents Legalization ‘Apostille today’ provides a service for the preparation of a police clearance certificate in Lithuania. At the client`s request, the certificate may be apostilled (see below) and translated from the Lithuanian language into a foreign language with further notarization. Once prepared a document may be sent to any country requested by the client.
Police clearance certificate in Lithuania is requested from the state register of ‘Suspected, Accused and Convicted Persons’. This register is administered by the ‘Information Technologies and Communications Department’ under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania. Upon requests of individuals and legal entities, the department verifies the information in the register and forms the corresponding clearance certificate in Lithuania. An example of such a certificate is shown below on this page. If a citizen of the Republic of Lithuania or a foreign state (non-resident) is suspected, a subject of investigation, accused or convicted, these facts will be specified in a certificate.
To order a certificate, it is necessary to provide an identity document and the following information:
1. Did the client change name or surname? If so, it is necessary to specify all previous names and surnames in the English language (in Latin characters).
2. The purpose of a certificate preparation.
3. A personal identification number assigned in the Republic of Lithuania. Only those citizens who were previously assigned this number should provide it.
4. Address of the registered place of residence.
5. Additional services: apostille, translation into a foreign language and notarization of the translation.
General information:
- The register of ‘Suspected, Accused and Convicted Persons’ is the property of the Republic of Lithuania.
- Only the ‘Information Technologies and Communications Department’ under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania is entitled to enter data into the register, modify, amend, delete, and provide information from the register (in the form of certificates) to citizens.
- The department reserves the right to deny a certificate if the request:
1. Fails to meet the applicable requirements.
2. Interferes with the rights and freedoms of information subjects.
3. Threatens the state security or defense.
4. Threatens public order.
5. Interferes with the investigation, detection or prosecution of criminal offenses.
6. Hurts important economic or financial interests of the state.
The denial of the ‘Information Technologies and Communications Department’ may be appealed to the State Data Protection Inspectorate within 3 months after the date of receipt of the refusal.
A police clearance certificate in Lithuania shall be issued subject to the following acts of law:
- Law No. 1241 of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania dated August 31, 2010 On the departments of ‘migration and registration of citizens’ and ‘information technology and communications’ under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Lithuania.
- Law No. 913 of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania dated August 26, 2015 On the processing of individual requests of citizens to state administrative institutions.
- Law No. XI-1503 of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania dated June 22, 2011 On the register of ‘suspected, accused and convicted persons’.
- Law No. XI-1807 of the Republic of Lithuania dated December 15, 2011 On the management of the state information resources of the Republic of Lithuania.
